DIY Christmas Felt Trees {CCC}

Hello I {heart} Nap Time readers. I’m Becky one of the five Crafting Chicks. We love to craft, create and inspire so make sure you stop by and say “hi!”

We were excited when we were asked to be a part of Crazy Christmas Crafters. Today I wanted to share my Felt Trees with you. These little guys are so much fun to have around and there are so many things you can do to make them your own. Here’s the basics of what you will need for your felt trees…

felt-trees.jpg

  • Wool Felt in various colors (I used a dark green, light green and a white. I used one sheet of 18×18″ of each color to get all three of my trees made.)
  • Styrofoam cones in various sizes
  • cutting board and rotary cutter
  • sewing machine
  • glue gun

First off I cut my wool felt into various sized strips from 3″-4″ for each color.

Then I wrapped the felt around the cone to get the shape for the felt to be cut into. You will want to make sure to get some curvature with your felt. This part is very tricky, but once you get it down it should work out okay for you.

Then I layered my felts on top of each other and figured out the way I wanted them sewn together. I wanted my seam to show so I made sure to sew it so they would. (Notice that I have curve to my strips now. This helps them fold around the cone better.)

Once I got all my strips sewn together, I pinned one side down to make sure I had everything looking ok. There is some give with the felt so I was able to stretch it here and there as needed.

Once I had everything the way I wanted, I ran a strip of hot glue down the inside seam, pulled and tucked a little more and ran another strip of hot glue down to tack down the outside seam.

I cut out a cute little star to top the felt trees and there you have it. A fun little felt forest. I sure love them!
