Getting organized with Martha + $100

With the holidays just around the corner I find that organization is KEY in having a “stress free” holiday.

Once November hits I always create a holiday binder to keep all of my lists and receipts organized. It really does help me stay on top of things during the month of December. Some of the tabs in my binder include: Decorating, Christmas cards, Baking, Gifts, Parties and Receipts.

I also always have lists going and actually find joy in crossing things off my lists. Sometimes I’ll go back and add things to my list that I completed that day (like laundry, cleaning, etc.) just so I can cross them off. Do you ever do that? No? Okay maybe I’m the only one …

Back to getting organized! I may have a tad obsession with the Martha Stewart Home Office™ with Avery™ supplies which I received to review. One: I love to be organized. Two: the whole line is so CUTE!

When I saw that she launched a Holiday line at Staples I got super excited. Not only will I be organized this Christmas … but I’ll be organized in style. In the line she has everything you need to organize the perfect holiday.

I’ve already started my running to-do list in the Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery notebook. I love the thick spiral on this book. Even though I have my super high-tech iPhone, I still find it easier to hand write my to-do list.

This year I pulled out all of my gift supplies and put them in one spot. I love these organizers because they keep all of my packaging supplies nice and tidy. It’s great for when I need to wrap a quick gift. I’ve got everything I need right in this box. It also keep the clutter off my desk.

I am also so excited to have all of my labels and tags ready to go. I love this whole Holiday Shipping line. The twine tags are my favorite. These holiday wrapping and shipping products are available in-store at Staples.

Of course you can’t forget the washi tape and ribbon. Every great package needs a little of both.

I’m really looking forward to wrapping presents this year. Everything is organized and ready to go.

Now I just need to finish the shopping …

You can purchase all the supplies found in this post at Staples. You can also find more information about the Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery on the Avery Website. Feel free to connect with them on Facebook as well.

What keeps me most organized is the fact that I actually have to clean up the house/make it presentable for the holidays, and that I have two little kids to wrangle, so I need the putting up and taking down of decorations to happen FAST.

Definitely lists, but also starting early! I always start shopping in October (or earlier) so the month of December isn’t crazy and I don’t have to deal with the crowds. I have plenty of time to make sure everything on my list is not only done, but enjoyed and not rushed!

I have a little moleskine notebook that lives in my purse with all the lists necessary. The best organization, however, is a google document shared with my husband that we open at the start of the year to keep a running list of ideas of gifts throughout the year. It makes it much easier to come up with lists for our kids, as well as good ideas for gifting the rest of the family.

I have a pre-made list with all the grocery items needed for dinners and snacks. I print a copy, cross off what I already have and head to the store. Get it done in one trip.
I also make lists for Mom and my Mother-in-law with everyone’s current sizes so I don’t have to worry about returns. My Christmas card list is just my address book. When I address the cards, I write the year (ex. 2012) by their name so I know I didn’t miss anyone.

I stay organized by planning WAY in advance for gift-giving. I hate the stress of needing a last minute gift and feeling forced to just buy SOMETHING. I typcially have gifts purchased before December. Then I start the hand-made stuff so I can enjoy the time left before Christmas actually arrives.

I buy this little notebook that fits in my purse, has a folder in it for me to keep receipts…I write down who I am giving to, ideas for the preson, what I am actually giving the person and if it has been wrapped….and gift cards and other little things go in a mini zippered pouch from 31 until I make/buy a little gift card holder, then it goes into a bigger zippered pouch….nope, don’t sell 31, just love it!

The thing that keeps me most organised is my online reminder list.
    I use todoist.com.
As soon as I get something to do, I add it to the list, for today, tomorrow, every day, next week etc.
Then whenever I sit at my computer and open a browser, up comes my to do list and I try to tick off what I can and go off and do what needs doing.

Color Coding Is my savior for staying organized during the holidays, I go multiple places and have numerous celebrations, do you know how hard it is to keep that all organized? (I live far away from family) I pick a wrapping paper per party and per location. None are similar, different color and theme, even my ribbons/bows are coordinated with which party/location it is going to. It makes getting out the door & not forgetting anything Sooooo much easier. … love getting to peek in on your blog!

My family mostly did away with actual gifts and instead purchase gifts from the World Vision gift catalog to help needy children/families around the world. My dad is a coach, so I get buy a sports related item in his name. My grandfather a farmer, so I usually buy farming tools in his name, etc. It cuts down on the pre-holiday stress and the entire family feels like we’ve done something better for the world.

I also try to shop ahead of time and put a post-it note on top of each gift with the intended recipients name on it, that way I can wait on wrapping until all gifts are bought, which allows me to be able avoid duplicates or too similar of gifts for one person and get all the wrapping done at once so that it can coordinate and look pretty together =)

I stay organized with my cell phone!! I have a great app that I use to keep lists for my family members as to what I want to get and what I have accomplished. I can also use this app to create grocery lists or whatever I need to do. It even allows you to use a reminder and a due date. I LOVE this app!! The best part is that it links to my husbands phone and he can see what is done, needs to be done, etc.

Seriously, I depend on lists, lists, and more lists – start with handwritten lists that evolve into typed lists that end up with handwritten notes in the margins and even sticky notes on top of that! Stay organized….yeah right!
As presents are hidden in several places from prying eyes, my husband and I keep a notebook of where we left gifts. The best part is we have specified codes we came up with for different areas, and create codes for the items in case the kids find the notebook. It’s like a puzzle sometimes trying to figure out what we meant. Always great for stress relieving laughs during the holidays.

Our rule is one thing in, one thing out. The kids go into their rooms and bring out some things they can donate to a our local thrift store and we put the new gifts in their place. That way we don’t end up with years and years of things that don’t get used. Out with the old, in with the new. :)

I keep organized during the holidays by making a running list in my planner – noting who I need to buy for (and their wish list) and who I have bought for (what I bought!). I also make sure to keep my calendar updated – there are so many kid’s plays/performances, cookie parties, holiday events that it is crucial to keep a calendar with me at all times. I shop early and avoid the stress of those last minute shoppers. I also only venture out on Black Friday if there is a deal too good to pass up and then I am organized by knowing when the store opens, where the product is located in the store, and where the checkouts are located – to get in and out as quickly as possible. :)

One idea I use is to store little gifts I find during the year in a covered plastic

I’m a list maker. I keep lists of addresses for Christmas cards, what gifts we are getting for loved ones (including cost and whether or not they’ve been purchased), and packing lists for our trips to visit family. My husband used to make fun of my lists, but now he’s come over to the light side and keeps lists of his own! ;)

I create lists before I head out shopping. When I get home I sort my purchases into separate bags so I can get an idea of what I have and what I still need to get. It makes it easier for me to wrap (which I designate a special color/paper for each person) presents because each person’s gifts are in one bag.

I have 1 master list I keep with me at all times, I never know where I’ll be when I see the perfect gift. Then I know what I have bought and for who. I also add new purchases as I buy them if they weren’t on the list. This has saved me from forgetting something I “hid” too we’ll and forgot about it. Also, just like “clean as you go” I wrap as I go. As soon as I can, it gets wrapped, labeled, then hidden if necessary. I learned this the hard way, after a couple of completely sleepless Christmas Eves.

Lists! And always keeping the house clean. I don’t have time for a big clean so I pick up and wipe off as I go along.

I keep a small note book that I carry in my purse and jot down gift idea’s for each family member. I keep organized by checking off each gift that I purchased and a little note on where I hide them.

I’m utterly disorganized. But someday, somehow, someone will get me organized. I could use a pretty fabric-covered corkboard.

I’m trying to use google calendar and documents to keep my schedule and lists. I still file some documents in physical boxes, I’d love some chalkboard labels for them. Thanks for the review and giveaway.

My gift tracker sheet keeps me the most organized. It lets me know who I’ve sent gifts to, budget, and who to write thank you notes for.

My lists keep me at least semi-organized. I duplicate my lists in several places. I keep a copy in my purse, on the fridge and best of all, on the computer.
