Hey friends! So after many requests I have decided to switch things up a little and do a few hair tutorials this week. I’ve been a professional hairstylist for 6 years, so this will be fun. :) I no longer work in a salon, but I still do a few friends out of my home each week. I love doing hair! Today I’m going to show you how to do the basic blow dry. If you have any specific requests, let me know in the comments.

This is my FIRST vlog (video tutorial) I have filmed, so bare with me. You can expect a few more vlogs through out the week. K… and don’t laugh! P.S. It’s kind of long, so just skip to the end if you want to. haha!

Recap- The key things that make a great blow dry are:

    1. Using the right products. I like using It’s a 10 Miracle Styling Cream  on my ends and Super Star thickening spray for my roots.
    2. Let your hair dry 75% and then start round brushing. Divide your hair into 4-5 sections (I wonder how many times I said “section” in the video-haha) with clips.
    3. Use a 2 inch bristle  brush and pull the hair UP with the blow dryer, then out to the center and then down to give the ends a smooth finish.
    4. If desired, go over your hair with a straightener.
    5. Tease and spray.

So that’s how it’s done. It’s pretty simple once you get the hang of using the round brush. Practice makes perfect! Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you another basic style you can do. :)

Thanks for watching!

    Hello Jamielyn,
I actually wanted to ask a quick question about your black granite counter tops from your kitchen remodel!! We are about to start a similar project on thursday and wondered if you might still have the contact info on the guy that installed them for you? They look great and it’s exactly the look Im going for. I would love to hear from you. Thanks Kim ([email protected])

Hey Kim! I actually found the guy on Craigslist. I so wish I had his number. If you search granite counter tops look for the guys name “Barry.” Just make sure to tell him you have a better deal and he’ll beat the price. ;)

Nice! I blow dry my hair a certain way and after I get a haircut, my hair won’t ‘work’ for about two weeks! I absolutely hate spending time on my hair, but I guess it’s what one has to do. Your cut and blow dry is CUTE. :-)

I’m a cosmetologist too and I always love watching how other stylists do their hair! I do mine the exact same way and even use the same products. LOL! I’m in desperate need of a haircut though. Any chance you know of some who’d be willing to do it here in the valley?

No way?! How funny. I love learning from other hair stylist too. I think we were all taught the basics, but have each learned different tips and tricks along the way… Where do you live? I need a hair cut too. Maybe we could trade? ;)

Common. Theme here, but I am also a stylist. 8 years with Toni&Guy. I’m always surprised at how many people don’t know how to blow out their hair efficiently. So this video should be so helpful for people. Btw, have you tried the Salt Spray from Catwalk? It’s bumped Superstar as my favorite volumizer. Even better, it keeps my roots from looking oily a little longer.

Hey Laura! Usually I just finish my makeup and some chores around the house while it air drys. If I’m in a hurry I’ll flip my head upside down and blowdry it till it’s about 75% dry. Then I’ll start round brushing. Hope that helps. Have a great week.

You’ve inspired me to blow dry my hair today. I’ve been “embracing” my natural bad perm look too long!
