Royal Icing Cookies

I’m determined to make some of these cute Christmas cookies from Bake at 350 over Christmas break!

Have you tried Royal Icing yet? If so, how did It go? Ahh they look SO pretty, I can’t wait to try them! There is lots of great tutorials over at The University of Cookie to check out. Hopefully I’ll have a picture to share with you some time before Christmas. :)

    first, don't skimp on bottles. buy the bottles. i made these kind of cookies for the first time on friday night…and we only bought one bottle to use for the white flood icing and decided to use icing bags for the colored flood icings (b/c we weren't using very much colored flood icing in comparison to the white). the bottles make it a lot easier, easier to control, and the icing won't leak out of the bottle like it does the back of an icing bag. #2- our first batch of icing we sifted the powdered sugar. on the 2nd one, we didn't. now i know why they said not to skip that step. don't skip it…it leaves clumps in the icing. #3- don't make 2 batches of icing unless you're making a ton of cookies…we had about 3 dozen and we had a TON of leftover icing that i just had to throw away. Have fun! We had a blast!

    I haven't tried royal icing cookies yet, mainly because it's very humid here at Christmas (I'm in Australia) and I'm worried they'd be a disaster. I am determined to try them during our winter, though!

    I'd love any tips on baking sugar cookies and using royal icing in humid conditions if anyone has any.

    I just tried Royal icing for the first time last week. (i was also inspired by bake at 350) I was surprised at how easy it was. You can check it out here. http://corner–house.blogspot.com/2010/12/cookies.html

    I also agree about the bottles. I tried to just cut a small hole in a sandwich bag and a few times it totally messed up the cookie. Also when you bake the cookies make sure you don't over cook them, I found that if the cookie gets even a little hint of color to it then it gets hard but if it is nice and pale it stays nice and soft.
