Easy and Healthy Pineapple Smoothie

We’re always blending up new easy smoothies in my kitchen, and this one tastes like a drink straight from Hawaii.

One sip and you’ll see why I refer to it as a beach vacation in a glass! Here’s why I keep coming back to it:

  • 5 ingredients, 5 minutes, one blender
  • Creamy and tropical, naturally sweet from frozen fruit
  • Dairy free, just like my mango smoothie and pina colada smoothie
  • A fruity breakfast or snack the whole family loves

Recipe Ingredients

Just 5 ingredients go into this pineapple smoothie, and you can swap most of them based on what’s in your freezer.

  • Canned coconut milk: I love to use canned coconut milk as I always have some on hand in my pantry plus the coconut adds a tropical taste! You could use a different non dairy milk, like almond milk, but by far the best taste is with coconut.
  • Pineapple juice: Helps thin the smoothie to desired consistency without watering it down.
  • Frozen banana: Frozen banana in smoothies not only adds naturally sweet taste but makes this pineapple banana smoothie incredibly creamy!
  • Frozen pineapple: You can use fresh if you have it on hand (here’s my tips for how to cut a pineapple), but you will need to add ice to make your smoothie thicker. You can also buy fresh pineapple, cut it up, and then freeze it to use.
  • Frozen mango: Another layer of sweet delicious taste that also adds to the creaminess.

How to Make a Pineapple Smoothie

Pineapple smoothie ingredients in blender.
  1. Add liquids to blending container: Start by adding your liquids first to the bottom of your blender container.
  2. Add frozen fruit: Place frozen fruit into the blender next. If you are adding any additional add-in’s now would be the time to add them as well.
  3. Blend: Secure lid and blend into a smooth and creamy smoothie. With certain blenders you may need to use a tamper to press ingredients to the blade.

Expert Tips

  • Frozen fruit. Using frozen instead of fresh gives this pineapple smoothie it’s perfect creamy, thick texture, almost like a pineapple Dole Whip.
  • Blend the coconut milk. Canned coconut milk tends to separate into cream on top and liquid on the bottom. So you’ll want to blend the two together until there are no lumps and the mixture is smooth.
  • Add liquid first. Pour the pineapple juice and coconut milk into your blender first, and then add the fruit. The smoothie will blend easier this way.
  • Consistency. If the consistency is too thick, add in more pineapple juice or coconut milk. If it’s too thin, blend in more frozen fruit.
  • Bowl: Instead of serving in a glass, make a smoothie bowl with all your favorite toppings like granola, shredded coconut and freshly sliced fruit.

Prep Tip: Make smoothie bags. Portion the fruit into zip top bags and freeze. When you’re ready, pour the fruit in the blender and add the pineapple juice and coconut milk. Great for meal prep.

Add-Ins and Variations

  • Greens: Pack in some healthy greens like spinach or kale. The taste won’t change much, however the color will turn green, just like my favorite green smoothie.
  • Extras: Feel free to add in extra mix-in’s to this pineapple smoothie, like a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a tablespoon of chia seeds or flaxseed.
  • Lighten it up: You can use lite coconut milk instead of the full fat variety for less calories.
  • Sweeten: For a sweeter pineapple smoothie, mix in a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.
  • Fruit substitutes: Feel free to include other fruit that goes well with pineapple, like swapping mangoes with strawberries.
  • Juice: Orange juice would make a great replacement for pineapple juice if needed. It will taste similar to my copycat Orange Julius.

Last step: Please leave a comment and rating after you make the recipe.

Notes

Coconut milk: If the coconut milk is thick, you may need to melt it down and stir it together. It should be in liquid form.
Fresh pineapple: If you’d rather use fresh pineapple, Id’ recommend adding in a handful of ice to keep the consistency creamy.
Substitutes: You may use lite coconut milk (canned) or even swap the mangoes for strawberries if preferred.
Extras: Feel free to add in extra mix-in’s, like a scoop of vanilla protein powder, chia seeds, flaxseed or a handful of spinach or kale (note the color will change).
Storage: It’s best fresh, but you can refrigerate it about a day in a sealed container, or freeze up to a month. Either way, shake or re-blend to bring it back together. Sometimes I pour leftovers into popsicle molds!
