Pencil jar teacher gift idea with free printable – what teacher wouldn’t love a freshly sharpened bouquet of pencils on the first day of school?
With just a couple more weeks of summer, I’m starting to finally think about back to school. It’s been such a fun summer but I’m ready for school to start and I think my kids are, too.
Whenever I’m trying to come up with post ideas, I try to think of cute, easy and inexpensive ideas. Because let’s be honest… who has the time these days?! Well, this teacher gift idea is just that. I’m always looking for a little something to bring for the teachers on back-to-school night. I remember last year the teacher asking if parents could help sharpen pencils, so I knew they must have a need. Then I spotted these ADORABLE jars in the dollar spot at Target and knew with a cute tag and some twine they would make the perfect teacher gift!

These teacher gifts were so simple to put together and I had my kids do all the hard work (aka sharpen the pencils). They actually loved sharpening the pencils, especially with the electric sharpener.

Supplies needed:

  • Glass jar with lid removed
  • 2 dozen sharpened pencils
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch (I love my small one)
  • Free printable download HERE

Instructions:
Download the printable to your computer. Print out on cardstock paper with a colored printer. You can take the file to a copy store if you’d like as well.
Cut around the pencil outline with scissors. Add a hole punch to the top corner and then tie the tag around the jar with twine. Fill jar with sharpened pencils.

You could also attach the tags with tape to a bag and fill it with pencils, candy or a gift card. Use these however you’d like. 🙂

Hope you enjoy these free printables! Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!

  1. So cute! I bought everything in the dollar bin at target for the school items like you have. I need to go back and get the jars now. What is that, that looks like lined school paper that you taped the pencil tag to? Is it the white board Garland that was in target bin too?

  2. What did you use to make your straight lines and dash marks so perfect. If it is a stencil where did you get it I have been looking for something like this.

  3. Do you happen to have the tags with these target jars?  Hoping I can find them in brickseek.com if you can provide the DCPI?  Thank you!!!

  4. I love these jars! What did you use for the No. 2? I adore that font but I simply can’t find the right thing at my local craft store.

    1. They came that way! Aren’t they cute?! There were in the dollar spot in Target during back to school time, 2015.
