Spiced Chocolate Crinkle Cookies… a delicious twist on the traditional crinkle cookie, and a perfect treat for the holidays and all winter long.

6th Annual I Heart Naptime Crazy Christmas Event

Ho ho ho, it’s holiday time and I am SO excited to be joining this year’s Crazy Christmas Event! I’m Heather from Well Floured, and my contribution to the fun and festivities are these delicious little spiced chocolate crinkle cookies.

As hard as it is for me to believe, the holiday season is here. I couldn’t be more excited. It truly is the most magical time of the year. Cold nights by the fire, cookies, carols, hot cocoa, and family parties. It’s a busy time for most but in the best way possible.

I don’t love the shopping and wrapping, but the decorating and baking I could do all day every day. Each year I seem to add more cookies to our holiday baking list.

These Spiced Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are Incredible!

I LOVE crinkle cookies. They’re super easy to make, taste more like a brownie (which I also LOVE), and those cracks…perfectly imperfect. Like chocolate chip, I make crinkle cookies year round. But I do think the powdered sugar coating makes them feel wintry and perfect for any holiday celebration.

For more intense flavor, I love to use dark, dutch processed cocoa, and to make these even more festive a little spice. Both cinnamon and a dash of cayenne (this is optional but I love a little heat with my sweet). Of course you could substitute natural cocoa and the cookies will still be delicious.

Spiced Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup dark dutch processed cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • dash of cayenne (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/ cup powdered sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment or silpat mats.

Melt chocolate and butter together, and set aside for a few minutes to cool.

Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cayenne (if using).

In another bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture (careful not to make scrambled eggs!).

Fold in the flour into the egg mixture until completely incorporated.

Scoop dough (about 2 Tbsp size balls) and roll into balls. Roll each ball in the sugar, and then the powdered sugar.

Place balls on prepared baking sheets, and bake 12 minutes. Cool on baking sheets 5 minutes, and them move to rack to complete cooling.

Spiced chocolate crinkle cookies look like little chocolate snowballs don’t you think?

Whatever your plans this holiday season, I hope you enjoy every sweet minute of it!
