Add a small pat of butter in the center of each pear, then stir together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the tops so it melts down into the centers as they bake and creates a simple caramel sauce.

Bake at 375° for 15 – 20 minutes or until the pears are soft, golden, and caramelized around the edges. Serve warm straight from the dish with Greek yogurt or ice cream.

Recipe Tips

  • Bartlett pears work too, but they soften a little faster, so start checking a few minutes early.
  • For the best texture in this pear dessert, use pears that are ripe but still slightly firm when pressed.
  • Caramelized pears pair perfectly with ice cream, whipped cream, Greek yogurt, candied nuts, homemade granola or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
  • For extra caramelization, place the baked pears recipe under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes at the end.

Recipe FAQs

How do I know when a pear is ripe?

Ripe pears are slightly soft when pressed gently near the stem. If they feel very firm, let them sit at room temperature for a day or two.

How to cut pears for baking?

Slice the pears in half lengthwise, then use a spoon or melon baller to scoop out the core and seeds. I like to leave the stem on but you can remove it if you like.

Should I peel the skin of the pear before baking?

You can but I like to leave the skin on so the pears hold their shape while baking.

How do I store baked pears?

Let them cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or bake a few minutes until warmed through.
