Christmas Reindeer Food

This is one of our favorite Christmas traditions to enjoy together as a family. The kids get so excited on Christmas morning when they find that the reindeer have eaten some of their food. Some other fun Christmas traditions of ours are elf on the shelf, decorating Christmas cookies, writing letters to Santa and making an advent calendar.

Christmas with little kids is the absolute BEST ever! I love this time of year and the magic that is all around. Making this magic reindeer food is a fun activity to do with the kids (or grandchildren) on the days leading up to Christmas Eve.

My kids love making Christmas sugar cookies decorated with sugar cookie icing for Santa on Christmas Eve night and never want to forget about the reindeer. They love putting out some carrots on the lawn, along with this magic reindeer food recipe.

They always stay up late waiting to see if they can hear the reindeer and Santa’s sleigh land on the roof. They’re always so excited to find that the reindeer have eaten some of their carrots and special treat in the morning!

Just 3 Ingredients

You can find everything you need in your pantry to help Rudolph find your home on Christmas eve. Don’t forgot to the printable tags.

  • Oats: Reindeers love oats and it gives them an extra boost of energy they need on Christmas night.
  • Sprinkles: This is so the reindeer can see it shimmering at night.
  • Optional glitter: Who doesn’t love just a little extra sparkle?

Here’s a little printable poem that is on the free tags below:

“Sprinkle on the lawn Christmas Eve night.
The moonlight will make it sparkle bright.
As Santa’s reindeer fly and roam.
This will guide them to your home.”

This is also fun to pass out as gifts to little friends. All you need to do is download the printable, print it out and then cut around the dotted lines. Then place in a 3×4″ cellophane bag. Fold the printable on the top of the bag and staple or tape it shut.

You can also place it in a bag and tie the printable on with a hole punch and ribbon. Super easy, inexpensive and cute gift idea!
