My Family Loves this Easy Funfetti Cake Batter Dip
This is one of my kids’ all-time favorite treats, and I love that it comes together in five minutes with no oven.
It reminds me of the dunkaroo dip I grew up on, and who didn’t love that? We make it for birthday parties, after-school snacks and late-night dessert cravings.
Sliced apples and strawberries are our go-to dippers, though graham crackers are just as good. If your family likes this one, try our cake batter popcorn and fruity pebbles treats too.
Ingredients for Funfetti Cake Dip

- Cream cheese: This key ingredient will make your funfetti dip nice and creamy. Make sure the cream cheese is softened. Learn how to soften cream cheese quickly.
- Cool whip: Make sure to thaw the whipped topping first. Learn how to make cool whip from scratch with a few simple ingredients.
- Funfetti cake mix: This is what gives that dip that yummy funfetti flavor. Add more to taste.
- Milk: You don’t need a lot – just enough to thin the dip out a little so that it’s not super thick. Add in small increments until your desired consistency is met.
- Vanilla: A dash of pure vanilla extract will help boost the flavor of the funfetti cake batter dip.
- Sprinkles: These are optional, but I love the color and crunch that rainbow sprinkles add. So fun for any occasion.
Heat Treating Cake Mix
If you are concerned about the raw flour in your cake mix package, feel free to heat treat it first. This will kill any bacteria in the flour.
Here is how to heat treat boxed cake mix: Pour cake mix into a microwave safe bowl and cook in microwave in 30 second increments (stirring in between). Once the flour reaches 165°F, it is safe to use. Make sure to let it cool completely before making the funfetti dip!
How to Make Funfetti Dip

- Mix. Using an electric hand mixer, blend together the softened cream cheese and dry cake mix in a large bowl until smooth. Pour in the milk and add a small dash of vanilla extract. Mix until creamy.
- Fold. Use a spatula to fold the cool whip into the mixture. At this point you can also fold in the sprinkles if adding. Taste and add more cake mix if needed. If the mixture is too thick, feel free to add a bit more milk to thin it out.
- Serve. Transfer the dip into a serving bowl and add a few more sprinkles on top. Then serve with your favorite dippers! Check out a few of my favorite dipping ideas below.
Ideas for Dipping
I love to dip apples into this funfetti fruit dip. My kids love to dip graham crackers or animal crackers. I’m sure just about anything you use would be amazing!
- Sliced apples
- Strawberries
- Graham crackers
- Teddy grahams
- Animal crackers
- Vanilla wafers
- Golden Oreos
- Pretzels
- Waffle crisps
Substitutions
For a lighter alternative, you may substitute vanilla yogurt in place of cream cheese. You can also use whipped cream instead of cool whip if preferred. This recipe would also taste delicious with a few mini white chocolate chips mixed into the dip!
