Cake batter popcorn – the easiest and yummiest treat you will ever make!

This “sprinkled” popcorn is one of my kids absolute favorites. It is SO addicting! And let’s be honest… I love anything cake batter. The best part? It only takes 5 minutes to make! You can’t beat that! This cake batter popcorn is great for when you need a last minute treat for a birthday party, classroom treat or late night snack. It also packages up really well. Just place in a clear bag and tie with twine and a cute little tag.

MY OTHER RECIPES

Anything with sprinkles wins, don’t you think? They just make me happy. Speaking of… I’m celebrating Sally’s Baking Addiction wedding with a little “virtual” bridal shower. A few of my blogging friends shared some sprinkle recipes in Sally’s honor… so make sure to check them out at the bottom of this post. :D

Cake batter pocorn

Ingredients:

12 cups lightly salted popcorn

1 (16 oz) package vanilla candy coating (I like Candi Quik)

1/2 cup funfetti cake mix

1/4 cup sprinkles (more if you’d like)

Directions:

Place popped popcorn in a large bowl. Melt candy coating in the microwave according to package directions. Stir cake mix into chocolate and then pour over popcorn. Stir until the popcorn is fully coated. Spread popcorn out on wax paper and then add the sprinkles on top. Store in a zip top bag. Enjoy!

  13. Jamielyn, I adore flavored popcorn mixes and this sounds fabulous! Thanks for sharing – absolutely trying this and pinning! Have a wonderful day!

  14. Not to sound completely dense.. but Vanilla Candy Coating… is that white chocolate chips? Because the directions go on to say ‘Melt chocolate in the microwave according to package directions. Stir cake mix into chocolate’ but Chocolate is not a listed ingredient? I don’t make fun stuff like this often, so I wanted to make sure I pick up the right thing.
    Thanks!

  15. This recipe sounds unreal! Who make the vanilla candy coating? I’ve never seen it before. I can’t wait to source all the ingredients and make it for my kids. :)

  20. Mmm – looks so good!!

  21. Popcorn is my all time favorite late night snack. I usually opt for buttered (bad I know!). Can’t wait to try this version. Pinned!

  22. Wondering if you have ever tried this with white chocolate instead of candy melts? I’ve never used candy melts so I don’t have anything to compare!
    Thanks!

  23. Hello and waving madly! I found your popcorn on Pinterest and followed “the crumb trail over”! What an awesome recipe and page!! I just shared on FB.
I will definitely be making this for my daughter as a surprise!! Thank you! ♥

  24. Delish — how did you keep the unpopped kernels out of the candy coating?

Could you please share what type of popcorn you used?

    • We used lightly salted popcorn. You can make your own by air popping and lightly salting, or by making it in a pan or microwave. :)

  27. This looks so great! Do you think the popcorn would stay together if it were shaped into a ball and put on a stick? I’m going to do a party at a park and don’t want grubby little hands digging into a bowl!

    Thanks for the recipe.

  28. Awesomeness pictures! Cake batter popcorn looked soooo good, I had to try and make them. I used your suggestion and used 1/2 cup funfetti cake mix. Thanks for sharing Jamielyn!
