Like most of you, I’m a busy mom who doesn’t have an entire afternoon free to make complicated recipes. That’s why I absolutely love this strawberry fruit dip—it tastes fantastic and seems like it may take a while to put together. However, the truth is I make this recipe weekly and it takes about five minutes to create.
Even better? This homemade fruit dip only has five simple ingredients: strawberry cream cheese, cool whip, marshmallow creme, lemon juice, and fresh lemon zest. There’s nothing here that is hard to find or difficult to make. As I said, it’s the easiest strawberry dip ever!
It also makes the perfect party dip. It’s always so nice to have a lighter, healthier version on the table instead of muffins or cookies. I especially like to make this recipe in the hot summers for a healthier sweet treat that, unlike ice cream, won’t melt and drip everywhere. Plus, I can practically guarantee you that someone will be hunting you down to ask for the recipe before the day is over. :)
How to Make Strawberry Dip
This is the easiest homemade fruit dip recipe ever—I promise you. To make it, you just need a few simple ingredients:
- 8 oz strawberry cream cheese softened
- 7 oz of marshmallow creme
- 1 cup of softened cool whip
- 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
- zest of 1 lemon
To make, add the softened cream cheese to bowl and whip with an electric mixer until it’s nice and fluffy. Then mix in your marshmallow cream—you can do this by hand or with the mixer on low.
Combine well, then gently fold in the softened cool whip and lemon juice. Add your lemon zest to the top, then mix well. Stick it in the fridge to chill and you’re done.
How to Soften Cream Cheese + Cool Whip
Cream cheese:
The easiest way to soften cream cheese is to leave it on the counter for an hour or so. However, if you need it softened quicker, you can simply place the cream cheese on a microwave-safe plate and heat for about 15 seconds, or until soft. Make sure you check it frequently as you want it softened, not melted.
Cool whip:
Likewise, it’s pretty simple to soften cool whip—when you bring it home from the store, place it in your fridge rather than your freezer. It will be nice and soft after a few hours!
If you need it softened faster, however, you can use the microwave again here as well. Set your microwave to defrost for 30 seconds, then stir it and try another 30 seconds. Keep defrosting until it’s softened.
What to Serve with Homemade Fruit Dip?
The beauty of this dip is that it goes great with pretty much any fruit you can think of. I’ve tried it with nearly every kind and never not liked it. It also tastes great with crackers and pretzels. A few of my favorites to serve with it include:
- red apples
- green apples
- bananas
- grapes
- strawberries
- pineapple
- graham crackers
- pretzels
- cinnamon chips
What Other Flavors Could I Try?
If you aren’t a huge fan of strawberry, you can still make this recipe. There are all kinds of fun cream cheese flavors out there, and you could always try subbing out the strawberry cream cheese for another flavor such as blueberry or raspberry. You could also just use plain cream cheese and flavor with a drizzle of honey if you prefer.
I recommend sticking with the original version of the strawberry cream cheese fruit dip, however, as it has the best flavor I’ve tried—and besides, that soft pink color is too pretty!
Storage and Make-Ahead Tips
Once you make the recipe, store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It will last about 3-4 days. It also tastes great when made ahead of time. I personally think it tastes best after the flavors have had a chance to mix up and chill for a few hours.
