A Snack, Treat, and Dessert!

M&M popcorn is one of the easiest treats to make, which is convenient based on the mere fact that this stuff is addicting! Every handful has the perfect combination of white chocolate popcorn with the sweet crunch of candy-coated M&M’s.

Adding candy-coated chocolate in popcorn is a fun way to add festive color to your everyday stovetop popcorn. It adds a ton of flavor and crunchy texture as well. For fun, pick your colors depending on the occasion!

Popcorn with white chocolate and M&M’s are a quick and easy no-bake dessert perfect for cozying up on the couch for movie night, a fun treat for a birthday party, or part of a bigger dessert table for the holidays. It’s also one of our family’s top game day treats.

Tips for the Best M&M Popcorn

  • Use plain popcorn if you wish, but there is something nice about the perfect mix of buttery popcorn and chocolate. If you want to have a little sweet and salty combo, you can add a bit of salt.
  • Wax paper is lined with a wax coating and parchment paper is lined with silicone. They’re slightly different, however, in this case, they can be used interchangeably. Use what you have on hand.
  • I prefer to melt the chocolate wafers in the microwave just because it’s easy and something my kids can do. If you prefer to use the double boiler, by all means, you can.
  • Adding M&M’s in popcorn is best done while the chocolate is still melted. That way you coat the M&M’s in the chocolate as well. It’ll clump together in a cohesive cluster that way.
  • I love stovetop popcorn but for the sake of convenience, you can use microwave popcorn too. With butter or without!

Variations

  • For a little added topping, drizzle with milk chocolate and dust with a few sprinkles.
  • Swap the white chocolate for caramel corn.
  • If you can’t get your hands on melting wafers, use white chocolate chips.
  • For Christmas use green and red M&M’s, for St. Patrick’s day use just green or a full rainbow! For Halloween, get your hands on some orange and black candy.
  • Swap regular M&M’s for the delicious taste of M&M minis or even smarties if you prefer.

Other Ways to Enjoy It!

Wrap up individual portions and hand them out as treat candy bags to friends and neighbors. They make great loot bags for birthday parties, and an easy recipe to pack as a treat in their school lunches. Make a big bowl for family movie night or settle in to watch your favorite sports team and enjoy a big bowl as a shareable snack!

Storing Leftovers

This delicious chocolate popcorn is kind of addicting so there will probably be very little (if any leftovers). If you happen to, it can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I mix popcorn with?

You can mix popcorn with m&m’s, nuts, chopped candy bars, marshmallows, pretzels or any other favorite candy.

Why do people put m&m’s in popcorn?

Adding m&m’s to popcorn adds a delicious flavor. Since there are a lot of flavors, you can experiment with different flavors. We also love using peanut butter or peanut m&m’s.

Why did my melted chocolate turn to hard?

If your chocolate hardened, it was either expired, over cooked or exposed to moisture. Make sure to use high quality chocolate and cook in a double broiler or cook in 15-30 second increments on 50% power in the microwave.

Using a melting wafer (made for melting) will also melt down much better than chocolate chips.
