Apple Cider Donut Bundt Cake
This pretty apple cider donut cake takes the flavors of a classic apple cider donut and elevates it to a beautiful bundt cake. Made with apple cider, apple sauce, brown sugar, and cinnamon, it’s moist and tender, deeply spiced, and tastes just like fall.
We finish it with melted butter and a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar. As far as apple desserts go, it’s as easy as an apple dump cake and as warm and cozy as my easy apple cake recipe!
Why I Love This Recipe
- The entire apple cider bundt cake is ready in 1 hour!
- Robust apple flavor without having to peel and chop any apples.
Ingredients Notes

Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements below.
- All-purpose flour: This apple cider cake has a soft, moist crumb—so be sure to measure your flour accurately to avoid a dense texture.
- Spices: Cinnamon and nutmeg add warm flavor.
- Baking staples: Salt, baking powder, baking soda, white and brown sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract.
- Apple cider: Not apple juice (nor apple cider vinegar!). Cider is unfiltered and has a deeper apple flavor. If you want to try making homemade apple cider, you’ll love it!
- Eggs: Bring them to room temperature before adding them to the cake batter.
- Applesauce: I have a really nice crockpot applesauce recipe I make when I have an abundance of apples I need to use up. If using storebought, make sure it’s unsweetened and brought to room temperature.
- For the topping: Melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar. I use unsalted butter, but either works.
How to Make Apple Cider Doughnut Cake
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
In a separate large bowl, use a hand mixer to beat the sugars and oil until well combined. Add the eggs and mix for another 2 minutes before adding the applesauce and vanilla.

Alternately add the dry ingredients and apple cider to the wet ingredients until the flour mixture is incorporated into the batter.
Pour it into the prepared bundt pan and bake in a preheated 325°F oven for 50 minutes.

Let it cool for 1 hour in the pan, and then flip it over and allow the cake to gently fall out. Place it on a wire rack or cake plate.
Once cooled, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Use your hand to gently gather it on the top and sides of the cake, making sure it’s well coated.

Recipe Tips
- Make sure to grease the bundt pan thoroughly, then dust it with flour. This helps the cake release easily after baking.
- Allow cake to cool in the bundt pan first before trying to release it. It’ll come out much easier that way.
- Brush melted butter onto the cake and let it sit for a few moments. This will give the cinnamon sugar mixture something to stick to, but won’t absorb straight into the cake.
- Serve this cake with a maple glaze or cream cheese glaze instead of cinnamon sugar. Or use both!

Made this last weekend and the family loved it, even my daughter who usually isn’t a fan of ‘fruity’ or ‘warm spiced’ cakes! It’s a keeper for fall!
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
So glad to hear the family loved the apple cider doughnut cake!
Leslie
I do not have a Bundt cake pan. Do you have to use a Bundt cake pan or can you use any regular cake pan? Thanks!
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
You can try a 9×13 but it has not been tested and baking most likely will change.
Jeanine S.
Delicious cake! Wondering if anyone has experienced a bit of a weird aftertaste. I’m not sure if maybe the baking soda was fully incorporated when I was mixing it together? I’ll mix it a bit longer next time I make it!
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Jeanine, so glad you love the apple cider donut cake, we have not had that happen, but yes if you are sensitive to a baking soda taste, ensure those dry ingredients are really whisked together well before adding to the wet. Enjoy!
Marlene day
The ingredients call for 1 1/2 tsp vanilla, however the actual recipe calls for only 1 tsp. Which is it????
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Sorry about that Marlene, it should be 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Enjoy!

Are you sure it’s baked at 325 and not 350? Bundt cakes are usually baked at 350 for 45 minutes. I don’t want to waste time baking this endlessly and chasing it minute by minute at the end guessing when it’s actually done…
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Ellie, based on our testing 325 is the correct temp for this particular cake.
Amanda Gilbert
It says 325 degrees after 50
Minutes it was still batter but brown on the outside and edges. 😔
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Amanda, sorry to hear that the cake wasn’t done after 50 minutes. Multiple people from all over the country have made it with success. All ovens do cook a bit differently, you may want to get an oven thermometer to ensure your oven isn’t cooking cooler than thought.
Becky
My family LOVES this cake! The apple cinnamon flavor is so good and it is perfectly moist. My son says it is a 10/10! 😀
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Yeah! So glad you love the apple cider donut cake, it’s such a good one for the fall!
Kathy Laweryson
Can this recipe be modified for cupcakes?
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Kathy, it has not been tested for cupcakes but may work. Baking time will decrease.
Tanya
I wonder if I could convert this into cupcakes? Any thoughts on how I would adjust bake time? Thanks for the recipe!
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Tanya, that has not been tested but I think would work, I would start checking around 17 minutes.
Jenny
This cake was so moist and delicious! I will definitely make it again!
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Thank you for the review of the apple cider donut cake Jenny!
Joan
To make gluten free, should I adjust the flour amount?
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Joan, this has not been tested gluten free, but my guess would be use a 1:1 gluten free flour substitute.
Geneen
Hi! This looks super amazing! Can I half the veggie oil or use something else and if so how much? TYSM!!!!
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Geneen, we have not tested it using only 1/2 the oil (subbing the other 1/2) so I can’t say for sure how that would turn out.
Donna
I have often substituted unsweetened apple sauce for at least 1/2 of butter or oil. Always came out moist.
Rose Ann Di Dio
Can I use Apple juice in place of cider
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Technically it would work as both are liquids, your cake will not have as much apple flavor though.
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi Esther, sorry to hear this! Did you by chance use salted butter in the cinnamon sugar topping?
Esther Mabry
No, I did not use salted butter. I think 5 teaspoons of salt tasting alkaline and it’s just too much 1 teaspoon teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons baking baking soda 2 teaspoons of baking powder. I’m going to try it again, reducing the salt to 3/4 of a teaspoon reducing the baking soda to a half a teaspoon. I’m leaving the baking powder at 2 teaspoons
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Thank you Esther! We are going to retest it as well.
betty
can i use butter instead of oil
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Yes, just ensure it is unsalted. Enjoy!
Laura
