Crockpot Italian Chicken
This creamy crockpot Italian chicken is one of my all-time favorite meals! My aunt gave this recipe to me when I was first married and we have been making it ever since. It is SO delicious and super easy to make.
This is one of those super easy “forget and go” 5-ingredient crockpot meals! You add everything to the slow cooker and that’s it! Then dinner is ready a few hours later. We love to serve this creamy Italian chicken over cooked pasta or rice and add some fresh parsley on top.
Ingredient Notes
This 4 ingredient crockpot chicken with cream cheese is such an easy dinner recipe that will want to always keep it in your dinner rotation!
- Cream of chicken soup: The cream of chicken soup helps to give this recipe it’s creamy consistency. I like to use a can from the store for convenience, but you can always make your own homemade cream of chicken soup.
- Cream cheese: You’ll just need 1 block of cream cheese. I like to cube mine up before adding it to the crockpot. This helps it melt evenly and not get lumpy.
- Italian dressing mix: Make sure to get the dry Italian salad dressing mix packet! I like to use Good Seasons Italian dressing mix for the best flavor.
- Chicken breasts: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work best for this recipe. I used 4 chicken breasts, which is about 1 1/2 pounds.
How to Make Creamy Crockpot Italian Chicken
Making creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot is as easy as ever! Just dump the ingredients in and let the slow cooker do the rest of the work.

- Place ingredients in crock pot. Place meat in crockpot and sprinkle Italian seasoning on top. Then pour in the cream of chicken soup and add cream cheese cubes.
- Cook on low. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Shred & season to taste. Shred meat with two forks and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir back into the sauce. If needed, add 1/4- 1/2 cup of broth or milk to thin it out.
- Serve and enjoy! Serve the tender chicken over cooked noodles or rice.

Tips and Variations
- Use slow cooker liners for easy clean up in this slow cooker creamy Italian chicken recipe.
- You will know the chicken is done when an internal thermometer reads 165°F.
- Feel free to add in veggies during the last hour of cooking. Broccoli, peas or mushrooms would taste great.
- If the mixture is too thick, add 1/4-1/2 cup of chicken broth or milk to thin it out.
- Use canned soup for convenience of make your own cream of chicken soup recipe.
Serving Suggestions
This creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot tastes great served over rice or cooked pasta (such as egg noodles). You can also serve it over mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort food!
Other sides I like to serve include roasted broccoli, roasted asparagus, garlic bread or breadsticks.
Storage
- Store: Store leftovers of creamy Italian chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze: You can also freeze leftovers. Cool completely then add to a freeze safe bag and keep frozen for up 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator then reheat.

How would you adjust the time if using frozen chicken breast?
Sarah @IHeartNaptime
Hi, it’s not advised to cook frozen chicken breasts in the slow cooker as the longer cooking / thawing time can cause bacteria to develop. I would thaw the chicken and then give the recipe a try! Enjoy!

Could I substitute condensed cheddar for cream of chicken?

Great reviews from family members and friends. I add chicken broth to thin this out a bit. Also, if I cook on the stated time for low, it seems to almost curdle so I cut the cook time by 1/2 an hour to 1 hour and keep the cock pot on warm. Put this over rice(too creamy in our opinion to put over pasta) and always add is cracked black pepper. This is a great go to for winter nights- and so easy if you have limited time to put dinner together. Add in a tossed salad and you’ve got a complete meal!

Thanks for those tips Linda! I am so glad that you and your loved ones enjoyed the recipe :)

Delicious! I would like to make this for a holiday dinner. How would I adjust to make in Dutch oven? I need to feed about 15.
I Heart Naptime
You will want to double the recipe. Place all the ingredients into the dutch oven and let it cook on medium until the chicken is tender and shreddable. When it is easy to shred, start making your pasta or rice. Hope that helps! Enjoy your holiday dinner!
Evana
Super easy and came out great! I wound up making my own dried Italian dressing mix dupe because I didn’t have time to run to the store but this recipe is a win. Both of my toddlers loved it and we had tons of leftovers for freezing.
