Pizza Slider Ingredients

  • Hawaiian rolls: These sweet rolls are the perfect base for our pizza sliders. I often make homemade Hawaiian rolls but store bought is easiest.
  • Pizza sauce: Use your favorite store-bought marinara or homemade pizza sauce.
  • Pepperoni: A mix of traditional and thinly sliced deli pepperonis works wonders.
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese: Adjust the amount to your cheese preference.
  • Topping: A mix of melted butter, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, grated parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley for that extra flavor punch.

Topping Ideas

Like when making pizza, you can mix and match the toppings you add to your pizza sliders. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Meat variations: Beyond pepperoni, sometimes I also like to add Italian sausage. You can also swap in some ham or chicken too!
  • Veggies: Add thinly sliced peppers or onions for a veggie twist. If one of your favorite pizza toppings happens to be pineapple, by all means, add some in there.
  • Cheese options: Experiment with different cheeses like cheddar or provolone for a new flavor.

How to Make Pizza Sliders

You’re just 4 easy steps away from biting into these irresistible pepperoni sliders!

  • Prepare the base: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Use a serrated knife for a clean cut through the Hawaiian rolls then place the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls in a buttered 9×13 baking dish.
  • Add toppings: Spread pizza sauce over the rolls, layer with pepperoni slices, and sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Top and season: Place the top halves of the rolls on. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, and parmesan cheese, and then pour this mixture over the rolls.
  • Bake and serve: Cover the dish with foil and bake until the tops are golden brown. Serve the pepperoni pizza sliders hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Recipe FAQs

Is it possible to use different types of rolls for this recipe?

Absolutely! While Hawaiian rolls offer a unique sweet flavor, you can use other types of dinner rolls or slider buns. It’s also best to use rolls that are pull-apart so the sliders stay together while baking.

Can I make these pepperoni and cheese sliders ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the sliders up to a few hours in advance. Assemble them in the baking dish, cover, and refrigerate. When ready to bake, let them sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before baking as directed.

How can I prevent the bottoms of the sliders from getting soggy?

To avoid soggy bottoms, don’t overdo it with the pizza sauce, and make sure your oven is fully preheated before baking. Additionally, baking the sliders uncovered for the last few minutes helps crisp up the bottom.

What should I serve with pizza sliders?

Pair these pizza sliders with an Olive Garden salad or alongside a homemade breadstick recipe for a complete meal.

How do you store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave for a quick snack.

  • 1-2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese , more as desired

Topping

  • ¼ cup butter , melted
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2-3 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. Butter a 9×13 dish and then place the bottom half of the rolls into the pan. Spread the sauce over the rolls. Place the pepperonis on top. Sprinkle mozzarella on top.
  • Meanwhile, stir together the butter, Italian seasoning, garlic salt and parmesan cheese in a small bowl. Then place top of the rolls on. Pour butter mixture over the top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 12 minutes. Uncover and bake and additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted. Add some freshly grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley on top if desired.

Notes

Pepperoni: I like to use a mix of traditional pepperoni and thinly sliced deli pepperonis.
Toppings: You could also add thinly sliced pepper, onions or cooked sausage as well.
